sape music instrument popular in sarawak
The sape is a traditional lute of many of the Orang Ulu or "upriver people", who live in the longhouses that line the rivers of Central Borneo. Sapes are carved from a single bole of wood, with many modern instruments reaching over a metre in length.
Initially the sape was a fairly limited instrument with two strings and only three frets. Its use was restricted to a form of ritualistic music to induce trance. In the last century, the sape gradually became a social instrument to accompany dances or as a form of entertainment. Today, three, four or five-string instruments are used, with a range of more than three octaves...

IBAN TRADISIONAL PUA KUMBU
The Pua KumbuTo the Iban of Sarawak, the pua kumbu is not just a blanket. It is a sacred ceremonial and ritual textile. The word pua in Iban means 'blanket', kumbu means 'to wrap'. Together, the two words mean a 'grand blanket'. However, the pua kumbu is very seldom used as a sleeping blanket. It is reserved for the times when men and women seek an encounter with the spiritual.
Weaving of an Iban textile, especially the pua kumbu, represents a deeply spiritual and socio-religious undertaking. It is a sacred activity that is incumbent upon every Iban woman, so as to establish her womanhood and worth in a socitey where gender roles are specific, and where spirituality is intrinsically linked to every aspect of daily life. As a weaver, she takes her place in the spiritual regeneration of the traditional values and religious norms of her people.
DABAI FRUITS IN SARAWAK
lets me introducting the fruit that is popular in sarawak. Sarawakians called it buah dabai (dabai fruit). It can be found mainly in sarawak espeacilly at song, kapit. Dabai fruit has made it ways to every markets in Sarawak. It is a seasonal fruit.
The way to eat it is first rinse it then soak in lukewarm water until it softens. Season with salt or black soy sauce. The yellowish fresh taste creamy. Actually you can preserve it just by soaking it in a jug with black soy sauce or with coarse salt (without the seed). I believe there are hawkers who sell dabai fried rice also. The second best thing that comes out from one single fruit is the seed. Wash clean and sun dried the triangular seed. Crack it open by using mortar and pestle coz I found that a nut cracker device doesn’t work on this seed… and then you find this lovely, crunchy, greenish nut. If you have problem taking it out from the shell, use a toothpick.

HORNBILL POPULAR IN SARAWAK
Hornbills are a family of bird found in tropical and subtropical Africa, Asia and Melanesia.
They are characterized by a long, down-curved bill which is frequently
brightly colored and sometimes has a casque on the upper mandible. Both
the common English and the scientific name of the family refer to the shape of the bill, "buceros" being "cow horn" in Greek. In addition, they possess a two-lobed kidney. Hornbills are the only birds in which the first two neck vertebrae are fused together; this probably provides a more stable platform for carrying the bill. The family is omnivorous, feeding on fruit and small animals. They are monogamous breeders nesting in natural cavities in trees and sometimes cliffs. A number of species of hornbill are threatened with extinction, mostly insular species with small ranges.
i really like hornbill bird because it so unique and very attractive..there are many type of hornbill in sarawak..it also present for identity sarawak....
